What we eat and cook for our families is of such elemental importance to our survival and our history. Recipes say so much about a cook's culture and life. To me, there seems to be something in cooking (and in textiles) that relates deeply to women, particularly to women who have cooked for their families. There is love of food, love of the people you feed.In this book, starving women in the Terezin Nazi Concentration Camp remembered the foods they'd cooked for their families and wrote down the recipes on scraps of paper, on onion skins, anything they could find. The book was smuggled out but only decades later did the person who had them find the daughter of the woman who'd gathered them together.The book is in Czech and English.I'm not sure I'll ever make anything from this book, but it's a treasure to have. It's a treasure to share something so important to these women.

This is a beautiful book which remembers those that suffered in Theresienstadt concentration camp. While starving under the Nazi regime, a group of women tried to add normalcy in their lives by discussing recipes and cooking with their mouths in absence of real food and kitchens. These women wrote a cookbook for one of the ladies' daughters but the lady died before she could give it to her. A lot of people did not want this book published but it is beautiful. Nothing can change what happened but this little book might serve as a substitute for millions of little books like this that were denied to young women. The culture should pass on to future generations.Some of the recipes are usable. You can find a recreation from the book if you google: "kisses from a concentration camp" .

This is a wonderful and insightful book which contains wisdom, showcases perseverance amid adversity, and is sprinkled throughout with humor along with a compilation of creative, delicious, timeless recipes. What is written in this little book is just as nourishing to the soul as it is to the body. I'm very glad that I purchased this book!

Beautifully edited documentary/memoir/facsimile. I am glad it continues to be in print. I sent this copy to Hungary.

A beautiful but sad memorial of the inner strength of humanity. As I read the recipes, I can't help but think of the women and the horrors they went through. This was surely a means of being heard and remembered, a source of strength, as such. Each recipe is a personal part of the woman that wrote it.

To be reminded of those who endured the worst possible conditions, as Americans we should always thank God for our freedom

I was definitely into book one. While I’m not drawn to this genre normally, I needed some light summer reading. Well, I kinda of fell in love with Nick and Rachel and their perspective of the story. I was saddened when Rachel lost a large part of the limelight in book two. But to almost completely disappear in book three was just weird. The author can write. There’s no doubting that. I’m just unsure of his reasoning behind having so many characters throughout the series and then taking the main character out of the equation in book 2/3- very odd. It reminded me of a film where the original lead wouldn’t sign up for the sequel. Book three could’ve been a lot better. Definitely a let down for me.

In the concluding book of the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy, the center of attention actually falls on Shang Su Yi, the matriarch of the Young-Leong-Cheng families. She has fallen ill and with her death approaching, her entire family returns to Singapore. At the start of the book, Nicholas Young is still estranged from his grandmother and with him apparently no longer the heir to the Tyersall estate, other parts of the extended family begin to jockey for position so they can inherit the most fabulous estate in Singapore.The story focuses on the trials and tribulations Astrid Leong is going through as she attempts to divorce her husband Michael while keeping alive her new relationship with Charlie Wu. It also focuses on Nicholas as he wonders what he should do now that his Grandmother has fallen ill. And we get a lot of attention paid to the Shangs, some attention on Rachel's brother, a good deal of attention on Kitty Pong and Oliver and almost no attention on Rachel. It seems Rachel's story was mostly done so we don't focus on her too much. That's a pity because she was an amazing artistic creation and I would have loved to see more about her. And that's why this book only merits four stars. All in all, it's a good conclusion that could have been better.For me, the best part of the book were Su Yi's WWII flashbacks. If Kwan doesn't want to continue this story then I hope he would write a story about Su Yi. She has always been amazing and now she sounds even more intriguing.

I bought the entire trilogy at once. I so enjoyed the first book that I immediately went on to the second, only to realize near the end, that I was reading the 3rd book. Even so, I was able to understand everything. However, when finished with the 3rd, I delved into the second, and had many aha moments, so this is why this happened and so forth. I loved this trilogy and recommend reading it in the correct order. All of the top reviews say everything I believe. I will go a step further. If you are not into big spending and consider it obnoxious, then this series is not for you. I thoroughly ENJOY all the brand names and exciting places. I am now passing the trilogy on to my best friend. I'm sure she will love it as much as I did. It may bot be a pulitzer prize winner but it is definitely entertaining. Oh yes, and I DID skim the final book again to clarify some of the finer points.

This is the last of the trilogy and quite frankly, it makes me sad that there will no longer be another installment of Crazy Rich Asians. It is a fun and easy read and widely entertaining. It puts the reader into a fairy tale world of money and power, a world I shall never see (nor do I want to), and highlights the family members' struggles, from trying to lead a normal life to attaining more wealth and power. This last book dwells more into Astrid's struggles to fit in, Nick's internal struggles with his family and we also learn about the matriarch Su Yi's past. It ties up some loose ends and is a great conclusion to the series.

Well, I just finished my 3rd book in this Trilogy..... and I am so sad that it ended...When I started with the first one I became so involved with the characters. Kevin has a way of writing that puts you right inside the book and you can actually feel and see what is happening... My only hope is that he continues on with these characters and doesn't stop with just 3. I used to read alot and during the last 10 years hadn't finished one book, until THESE ! I highly recommend these books........ with the first one give yourself some time to get involved and once you do they will be very hard to put down.........

The third book in this amazing trilogy that has opened the world of the "crazy rich asians" to many of us for the first time, is an excellent, very entertaining and well written summer read. Full of mind boggling fashion, interior design, food and spending excesses, this grand finale takes the reader on a journey full of emotional suspense and plot twists, as many familiar and a few new characters meet again in Singapore and in stunning, luxurious locales across the planet. I loved and enjoyed this book from the first page to the last and read it way too fast. Time to read them all again from the beginning on the beach this summer. Kevin Kwan is masterful at being extremely entertaining, creating a literary world, characters and locations that I can see, hear, smell and feel and weaving a web of relationships that display a deep understanding of the intricacies of life and human perceptions, desires and interactions. Thus I have found myself again and again in the characters of his books and have come away enriched from immersing myself in this strange world.

This book is a culmination of Kwan's trilogy. It's hard to believe there are people who live this way, but Kwan says he had to tone reality down to make it more believable. I admit that this series is addicting and fun to read--not so much ha-ha fun, but interesting. The two main characters are not nearly as engrossing as the people who surround them in the story.

The first two were fun and definitely showed the crazy (no pun) side of the super-rich. This, being the third and final in the trilogy seemed rushed. I felt like some of these backstories would have been better spread out in the first two books because by the third, halfway through, it felt as though the author was quickly trying to tie up all the loose ends. And while the books started with Rachel, this book focused on Nick and his family.

He finnesses your engagement with the main characters, and is especially skilled at his portrayal of how adults feel when you're a teenager. You're gonna fall hard for this book.

Quite simply the best young adult book I've read since Everything, Everything in 2016. We'll Fly Away is a touching piece on friendship and loyalty and protecting the ones you love. We'll Fly Away is a story that will leave you feeling a lot of feelings—and not necessarily good feelings. This book is bleak and it is sad, but it is a wonderful read.Luke and Toby grew up together in a small North Carolina town and belong to families that could only be considered trashy—poor, abusive, inattentive, selfish, etc. Luke's mother has him and his younger siblings living in a one bedroom apartment much too small for them. She barely works and would rather bring home strange men and try to leech off of them for money. The father is not in the picture. Toby has the opposite. He lives with just his father, alone in a small house. His father is an alcoholic and extremely abusive to him. All their life, Luke has watched over Toby, patching up his cuts and bruises, letting him sleep on the floor at his apartment as much as possible to avoid his father's rage.We know from the very beginning of the book that Luke is in prison on death row. Part of the storytelling is done via letters to Toby from Luke. So, the book is gloomy from the get-go. We know something goes down and Luke ends up in prison. There can be no happy ending to this story.Toby and Luke meander through high school and family life by leaning on each other. Luke is a wrestler, and a very good one. The boys are putting their future on Luke securing a wrestling scholarship and getting them both out of their crappy lives. When the two need an escape, they head into the woods nearby to a hollowed out plane. They spend time there and bond, as friends do. They dream of a future where they are free of their hardships; they talk about how amazing it'll be when they can escape together."We are not living in a world that stands still."Things begin to fall apart when both of them meet girls. Luke meets a girl via her being his new neighbor, and Toby meets an older woman at a bar his father frequents. These two relationships cause rifts between the best friends. Toby even falls into some of the illegal business his father is involved with.I loved this book for everything but the “romance” bits. It kind of held the plot back and made the middle of the book laggy and skim-worthy. The story lost its way around the middle, but thankfully picked back up not too long after.The characters are extremely relatable. I wanted to wrap both boys up in my arms and protect them from the harshness of their lives. I think Bryan Bliss captured the chaos of life so perfectly in this book. Sometimes, in life, you're dealt a sh**ty hand, and that is what is portrayed here. Neither of the main characters could've escaped their situations easily. They are just kids, you know? It was up to their parents to care for them, and they failed miserably.The best thing about this book for me is that it doesn't have a happy ending. It is sad and may induce tears. It is gut-wrenching and horrible. I hated it and loved it at the same time. I hated it for how real and true it could be, but loved it because this is a book that doesn't apologize. The story is earnest and raw. I believe this book is a symbol for standing against capital punishment. I, personally, think it is a great example of a situation where the death penalty is not right. That's the only thing I will really say on that, as it is a personal opinion.Overall, this book touched me to the core. It left me lost and in tears. I loved and hated it. It was very well written. The characters are built perfectly and seem so real when you read it. I enjoyed the interspersed letters from Luke to Toby via death row. It was an interesting perspective to place into a young adult story. It fit well into the narrative. This story is beautiful in it's anguish. I recommend it to everyone, but keep in mind that it is a grim story with no happy ending to be had. Beautifully done. After this, I plan to read Bryan's other two books ASAP.

We’ll Fly Away is a well-written, hard-hitting YA novel with important messages about poverty, child abuse, the justice system, and friendship. I knew We’ll Fly Away would be heartbreaking. I also expected it to be raw, upfront, exposed, and almost crude. It certainly is an unflinching book, with threads of hope (but mainly heartbreak) and a positive message.Luke and Toby are best friends - the only ones to see inside the truths of the other’s life, the only ones who could understand. But Luke struggles to maintain his wrestling record for a college scholarship with his mother’s ever increased neglect and caring for his two younger brothers, and Toby falls into a relationship with an older woman while continuing to face his father’s abuse. Events will come to a head as the boys fight for their friendship, their future, and their freedom.We’ll Fly Away is written both through third-person narration focusing on the two main characters, Luke and Toby, and letters written by Luke to Toby from death row. This before and after style is tantalising, as it is impossible not to wonder what happened to lead Luke to this current place.We’ll Fly Away does everything it sets out to do. However, it is not the sort of book I could say I enjoyed. It is important and it’s message, while clear and made clearer from the author’s note, is not preachy nor overbearing. Instead, We’ll Fly Away is the perfect conversation starter, ideal for sparking debate, and something I would love to unpack with teen readers.Toby and Luke, for all their flaws and unrepentant teenage-boy-ness, are likeable characters. In fact, it’s hard not to want to sweep them away from their life of abuse and neglect. But this is their story - hard though it might be.There are many important topics touched upon in We’ll Fly Away. I am a Christian and have a incredible love and respect for my Hindu brothers and sisters after reading this most sacred scripture. Thank you Sri Prabhupada for your inspiring commentary. This is a great version of the Bhagavad Gita. This book goes verse by verse, and after each one, there is a long analysis of that verse. I recommend getting a copy that is just the Bhagavad Gita without the commentary as well. It was much easy for me to digest this great spiritual work by reading the Bhagavad Gita without any commentary a few times, then going back and reading the commentary. Just my 2 cents. If you are looking for a great introduction to spirituality seen through the Eastern lens, pick up this book.

This is one of my favorite translations of the Gita of all time -- and at a very reasonable price. A.C. Bhaktivedanta gives a clear and concise commentary that illuminates the passages to the reader.The Gita is a spiritual gem. The world needs this.

This is a great edition of the Gita, and certainly the best edition of Bhagavad-gita As It Is. Unfortunately there are some typos in this edition which, in my opinion, prompted another edition of this book with many unnecessary changes. Despite its typos there is much undeniable spiritual power in this book that has changed lives and will continue to do so.

Lovely edition with full colour plates and ribbon markers suitable for private devotion as well as study.

I want to give it 4 stars for quality, but I cannot even look at the book without smiling. Haribol!

There where some flowers found within the book which stained two pages. However like new
