Wow...it's incredible how important a modern translation like this is in understanding Shakespeare's writing. The "No Fear" editions of Shakespeare's plays are an awesome resource, and are the only way I'll ever be able to understand what's happening in the story without constantly referencing other sources or struggling to piece things together. I love reading, but I've come to the conclusion that I'll never understand or enjoy Shakespeare like some people are able to, and as a result, when I'm forced to read Shakespeare I save a tremendous amount of time and frustration by ignoring the old english and reading only the "No Fear" translation.

This No Fear series continues to help me get more literate about Shakespeare. Each time I read a play, I learn more about the meaning of what's being said. Very valuable for the student or casual reader. I saw this play on the stage and had no idea what was going on most of the time. Now I get it all!

This review is to make clear, that unlike what one previous reviewer said, the book does in fact have line numbers. Not every line is numbered, but every fifth. This makes it easy to find things. This version is also very nice with the modern English translation next to the old English. I would recommend it. We used it for a high school Shakespeare class with success.

First off, I ordered this on a Friday night and received it promptly on Monday - impressive. Second, the pages are all numbered and have lines (to use for references). The modern, English translation on the right of each page is going to be very helpful for my English class. Has a very "friendly" look overall. Looking forward to using it.

I purchased this as a resource for one of my own projects. My expectation was that I'd look up a few things, probably using it to check some names or clarify some ideas from the Lovecraft Mythos. But as I thumbed through the book, more and more entries caught my eye. I began cross referencing creatures and checking the relationships between various deities, sects, etc. And I ended up spending most of an afternoon browsing. Ideas are percolating! Very glad I purchased this one!I detected a few typos, and would have liked to see more graphics (not monster pics, but graphics that clarify relationships among the various listings). Some "meta structure" might be nice too, where (for example) keywords might be used to distinguish between major and minor aspects of the Mythos. Lovecraft and those he influenced/inspired have written a lot of stuff, some of it fascinating. Anything that can help an interested person tease out relationships would be helpful.All-in-all, however, this promises to be a useful reference book.

Giving the authors due credit for doing that amount of research, however this encyclopedia wound up unsatifying. For 1 thing, there are no illustrations, which is important considering the complex appearances of Lovecraft’s creatures & gods.For another, the individual entries are rather skimpy on details: Randolph Carter’s life history is highly abbreviated, Herbert West was a celebrated doctor with a thing for reurrection, & Walter Gilman was a college student who died from a rat bite. Anybody who read the stories knows a great deal was left out. I’m forced to wonder how much is being withheld about the entries I don’t know.It’s possible the authors’ intention is for us to seek out the original works and read those. Laudable enough, but this poses a problem as many of those books are long out of print & virtually unobtainable. My area has almost no 2ndhand bookstores left.I can Google the information you suggest? True, but if I have to read everything on the Internet, then what do I need this book for?

For my podcast I find this to be a great resource.Unfortunately I have occasionally ran across instances where Mr. Harms references a story that is no longer in print and hard to find(even after contacting the author or the story). That would be my only gripe. Otherwise this is wonderful, also I am happy that it is a book that covers literature as well as RPG source material due to the fact that the two have become intertwined in the last 30+ years. I am also thankful that the book doesn't rely on any goofy lovecraftian tricks, spooky typefaces or faux-aged paper. It's nice to have some people take this space monster business seriously.

It's a reference book on Cthulu Mythos. The Questions on the Amazon rating screen are for a novel or biography and completely irrelevant to a reference work. It's funny. They ask the same questions on a Roll Players Guide book. If you play CoC or just want to understand the world of H.P. Lovecraft and his collegues, this will help. It even has some explanations of how successive authors have changed or added to the mythos.

I purchased this as reference material for some Mythos stories I'm writing / will be writing. It is chock full of data. If you are writing Cthulhu Mythos stories, this is a good work to draw upon.

Having recently gotten reacquainted with the stories of H.P. Lovecraft, I found this encyclopedia to be very informative. I had read some of Lovecraft's stories back in college, but now thirty years later, I am enjoying the stories again, along with tales by other authors who want to keep the Lovecraft or Cthulhu mythology alive in their own way. This encyclopedia covers many well known topics, characters and locations within the mythology from the dangerous book known as the Necronomicon to the professors of Miskatonic University. Sometimes, I will read a Lovecraft story and then see if any of the events or characters are featured in another story (maybe by another author) by checking the Cthulhu Mythos Encyclopedia. Unfortunately, the encyclopedia does not have any pictures or artwork inside, which would be helpful, but that is my only complaint with this book. I hope that if you do pick up this book, you will find it to be as much of a fun and helpful resource to Lovecraft's world as I have. Thank you for reading.

This book will clear up any questions you have about the Mythos. It's an invaluable aid if you are GMing a Call of Cthulhu game, however I wouldn't sit down and read it because it has the tendency to ruin the suspense and mystery of the stories if you're already familiar with the Mythos. I would recommend this to any one who's already read Lovecraft and co's tales and wants something more or someone who needs a quick guide for GMing.

It's a good companion to the Cthulu Mythos if you're not up to speed on the works of Lovecraft.

My boys love this series. It is surprisingly well written and I find myself reading after my boys have fallen asleep. :)These books follow the adventures / misadventures of Zack Zombie, a Minecraft zombie and his mob friends. He is a goofy but good kid with an intact family and lots of funny adventures. Zack doesn't always make the right choices but he learns from his experiences and takes responsibility for his actions. His little schemes always go wrong but he ends up making the right choices in the end. The books in this series are funny and short. My boys 5 and 9 love them. Even my older two will sometimes sit in and listen to them. Must have book series!

My 8 year old daughter loves this series and I can't recommend them enough! She reads and reads and reads!! The book also addresses issues such as bullying etc so there is a message in them.If you are looking for something that will foster their love for reading, this may be a good option! My daughter loves mind-craft so this as been a natural fit for us.We bought kindle version

As a Minecraft "zombie" himself, I just knew my sweet baby boy would relate to the trials and tribulations of the titular Zombie in this series. My adorable and brilliant cuddlebug devoured all of the presently-available installments and we are both now anxiously awaiting the next. (Seriously. Can't you just churn these out in groups of four or something, Mr. Zack Zombie?)

My 6 year old son is a huge Minecraft fan and he's been reading this series of books all year. He is now on book 9 and he is quite sad that he only has 2 more left.This is a great book series. Nothing inappropriate in the text. I have caught him laughing out loud while reading these books.I would definitely recommend them for any Minecraft fan.

He loved it, could hear him laughing in the back seat. As a rising 3rd grader it was an easy read,and he finished it pretty quickly but he would pick it up again & read a few pages all through the weeks vacation. This review compares two excellent recent texts in molecular modeling for novices--Jensen's: Molecular Modeling Basics and Hinchliffe's: Molecular Modelling for Beginners.-- Both texts are about $50 at this writing (update: Jensen dropped to $37 from $49, right after this review)-- Jensen is 161 pages, first edition; Hinchliffe is 428 pages, second edition-- Both texts are targeted to "beginners" - which after studying either text, you'll come to find means beginners in computational chemistry, but already well versed in the basics of chemistry, math and physics-- Both texts rate 5 stars in my opinion, as both have different objectives and styles-- Both make great self study texts, and great references for relating formulas to models-- Both websites/blogs are up to date at this writing with additional examples, solutions, and even animations in the case of Jensen. Jensen's web resources are a star higher than Hinchliffe.At a first purely quantitative glance, at the same price with an approximate 260 page difference at the same price, and with both having similar currency/ recency of info, Hinchliffe would win given only the above. Pedagogically, both are excellent, but very different in style.Jensen PACKS formulas into every page, and studying this little text is like gold mining, and takes careful attention. Jensen takes far less time to explain software, but does get the beginner to the INTERPRETATION of software output. There is a very clear link between formula and model, so you "get" the ideas more clearly than with a straight computational chem text of, say, 650 pages, as many are.Hinchliffe is between a cc text and Jensen's pure litany of model vs. equations. He takes more time and space to explain background and give real world examples than Jensen. The foundation concepts of cc include: Statistical methods (thermodynamic and quantum); bonding/geometry/kinetics/atoms; Spectroscopy; 5 or 6 key software programs; potential energy surface; molecular dynamics and energy calculations; Schrodinger and spin.Both texts cover the basics, but just due to volume, Hinchliffe goes into more breadth and depth. Jensen's illustrations are a little clearer in relating graphic to formula/equation than Hinchliffe, but on the other hand, Hinchliffe gives many more applied examples and details, including an excellent section in this new edition on how research and discovery USE modeling and software. It takes years of experience to sort out signal from noise in interpreting models! Both are outstanding in showing how the models relate to basic principles AND computational equations, but of course neither go into the computational detail found in a pure CC text, although Hinchliffe gives many more examples to help the student understand the ones that are covered.Neither text gets too advanced with group theory, advanced dynamical systems ala probabilistic models, PDE's, matrix calculus, linear algebra, etc. although both cover statistical methods (by definition in this field today) relatively extensively. Neither get to tensor details or gauge theory details. So, the "beginners" premise is fair, but neither is frankly basic undergrad--I'd call them both undergrad, but after p-chem.On the other hand, both make excellent "visual" and modeling/software tools to complement a more rigorous computational chemistry or even p-chem course itself --a must have if it is your first! Jensen's book IS for that purpose, Hinchliffe attempts to be more stand alone, and does strike a fair balance.Strangely, although there are many similarly covered topics, the approaches are different enough that buying both books would not give you as much overlap as you'd expect! In my opinion, the two together would make a much better CC course together than the $180 cc text you probably will use!If you can only afford one, here is the question: how much of a beginner are you, really? If you're VERY early in the process, and especially if you're new to p-chem, choose Hinchliffe. If you have more experience and can "take" less applied/ intuitive examples given quickly and furiously, choose Jensen, as the examples are plentiful and staccato. You can't go wrong with either.KINDLE note: Neither text uses LaTex or exponential formulas that get slaughtered on e-readers, so both read perfectly well on Kindle, Amazon cloud, pc's, tablets, etc. Budget suggestion: get Hinch in print and Jens on Kindle!NOTE: NEITHER OF THESE TEXTS ARE FOR HIGH SCHOOL OR K-12 "MODELING" OF MOLECULES WITH THE LITTLE MODELING SETS TEACHERS USE! THESE ARE COMPUTATIONAL CHEMISTRY TEXTS, AND BY MODELING THE AUTHORS MEAN COMPUTATIONAL OUTPUTS OF SOFTWARE. Yes, there are many cool pictures and output, but I don't want a mom or dad wasting money thinking these are "guides" for putting together very basic bonds, physical models, etc. Actually, as a parent or teacher, YOU might enjoy either!Library Picks reviews only for the benefit of Amazon shoppers and has nothing to do with Amazon, the authors, manufacturers or publishers of the items we review. We always buy the items we review for the sake of objectivity, and although we search for gems, are not shy about trashing an item if it's a waste of time or money for Amazon shoppers. If the reviewer identifies herself, her job or her field, it is only as a point of reference to help you gauge the background and any biases.

It has a lot more detail than Dr. Jan Jensen's book, which is what I first read before starting to do calculations. Now I can learn the fundamentals, already knowing how I'd apply them to quantum mechanical calculations.

Concise and relevant. Excellent book...
