I've read this one before, and I love it. I can't say I love all of Sally's books (though I do adore her), but this one is definitely high on my list. I just adore the characters and their relationship. They feel real to me, and I like them. So I am along for the ride from the get-go. I think the difference between this book and Draw Me Close is that Sally's character descriptions are conveyed through emotions. They aren't described as beautiful just as fact. It's an eye-of-the-beholder sort of attitude. It's even more fun because when the characters appear in other books, they are not described the same. Occasionally the new descriptions are less than complimentary.I always enjoy Sally's sex scenes. She is so funny and cute and playful. That is probably also why her characters are so likeable.Sally definitely helped change this genre into something less formal, into one more fun.
Emma is the vicar's daughter. When she was a child, she fell in love with Charles. He was the second son of a Marquis. She had grown up being in love with Charles.Things changed and Charles became the Marquis. He has reluctantly faced up to his duty to marry and sire an heir. In fact, both of them are likable human beings.The plot moves along at a good pace. At times, I felt that Emma's innocence became a little too much to be believed. She lived in the country, surely she had some idea of how procreation worked. But, her lack of knowledge does add a great deal of humor to the story. Charles' explanations illustrate his wit, his humor and his gentle kindness.Emma and Charles share childhood memories but they also share a genuine friendship which becomes much more. Because of their shared history the friendship is based on a frim foundation.I enjoy this series very much. I especially love the humor which goes along with the romance.Ms MacKenzie is one of my favorite authors because she always makes me laugh. What's not to love?
Even speed reading. Weak writing, little character development, no snappy dialoghold your attention, often insipid and predictable. Thank goodness I only paid 99 cents and even that was too much. For everyone who gave this 5 stars, be advised there are way better romance authors out there. Eloisa James, Elisa Braden, Lisa Kleypas, Sarah MacLean, Tessa Dare, Joanna Shupe. For starters. Borrow it on Overdrive, don't waste your money.
This is my first book by this author and will probably be the last. It was rather juvenile in the sense that it seemed every thought the hero had was more like what a hormonal teenage boy would think instead of a 30 year old man. It was page after page of the hero and heroine having lustful sexual fantasies with no character development to provide any kind of balance. The relationship was just very shallow, in my opinion, and not believable.
I don't usually expect this much humor in a romance novel, but this was a pleasant surprise. Great characters, particularly Aunt Beatrice and her friends. .Romance, humor, cute kids, and a little mystery. Also some fairly graphic sex, but none of it gratuitous.
Charles and Emma were hysterical to watch. I loved her responses to this determined wooing. But it also had tender moments. It was truly sweet how he dealt with his nieces. Plus, the ladies society was a laugh riot.
Funny story of a Lord who tries to woo a stubborn governess who was a childhood friend. He gets himself into ridiculous situations as he tries to prove himself to her. The children the governess cares for try to help him (they are his nieces), but that doesn't work out either. Quite a nice love story.
A lighthearted twist on the usual romance and seduction! Loved the hero and heroine! They had me laughing frequently. And the hint of mystery was just perfect!
