Mayhem completed two of the crafts in this book within days of receiving it, and was inspired to make another entirely on his own. The book consists of educational blurbs, thorough craft instructions, and helpful illustrations, all presented in an appealing format. Because art and manual activities tied into schooling help kids retain more of what they learn, I know we will use this as a reference and learning aid in our homeschooling for many years to come. This is a good book to keep on the shelf for rainy days or school projects. I've yet to be disappointed by a Little Hands book, and I am collecting the series. I recommend them all.

Bought as a gift for a beginning teacher. Lots of interesting activities that could be used for early elementary. Could adapt ideas for upper elementary. Make social studies interesting.

We have been using this for our homeschool social studies curriculum. The book is cute and my daughter has been enjoying the activities included. It is a bit meager on its own, so I have supplemented each section with story books or historical reference books from the library. This book has been a great overview for my kindergartener and has been helpful as a starting off point.

We bought this book for our preschool. The activities are age appropriate and the children enjoy the projects. We love how it incorporates science also!

I love this book! It gets at the heart of American values without being preachy. The ideas are very accessable to young kids. Our family is having a ball with this.

The kids don't mind doing this but it is very gimicky with no real substance or "meat" to it... I would rather read "james Baldwin" stories or "the american story"....

This book is really great. It has the best little activities that are really fun and informative! We use it for homeschool and I love it. It would work just as well for puplic school. I really do recomend this book

Can't really say I LOVE ant text book. . .but it was as expected and shipped quickly

This book is very dry. It contains nothing more than black ink on off-white paper. Terms are not clearly defined, and are not indicated (underlined or italics) which makes studying the terms placed at the back of the chapter a pain. It also has not escaped the bias of politics. It makes many claims that are given little backing or only one sided interpretations. Despite the problems above, it is a beginning-level college textbook, and does teach you about fundamentals of risk and insurance. Since it does its job, I cannot rate it lower than a 3, if political bias were taken out, I would definitely give it a 4. If the terms became more clearly defined and identified, along with the bias removed or lessened, I would give it a 5. My advice while reading this book: accept the fact and definition checklists, but watch out for opinions disguised as apparent facts.

I teach insurance and risk management in a university graduate financial planning program. I have used the Risk Management and Insurance text by Emmett Vaughan for years. While the books were absolutely complete and clear, they were never scintillating reading, although there was a quote at the beginning at the beginning of each chapter that gave a wry and whimsical commentary on risk, life and the law. Alas, Emmett died about 10 years ago, and Therese, the insurance commissioner their state, has rewritten his book. While this book contains all the content of the old book and is updated for new laws, it has none of the whimsy that made the old book bearable. It does not have study aids such as vocabulary lists, self-tests, and examples from life. I am surprised that Wiley, who usually provides a terrific suite of study aids, has neglected this book. Wiley has smart learning solutions for most of its books, but not for this one. The companion web site for instructors does have PowerPoint presentations, an instructor manual and test banks, along with answers to the end of chapter questions, but the Student Companion website has only sample policy forms and some material for Chapter 34. Usually you would see self-tests, glossaries, maybe the PowerPoint slides (which are really just as dull as the book), and maybe even some videos. Getting students interested in Insurance is hard enough without the book being dense type on white paper. There are virtually no charts, graphics or anything other than soporific text. And, this is the eleventh edition, so there ought to be a wealth of supplementary material available. Thank heavens I have experience in the field and can tell stories about things that really happened that bring the concepts to life. One of my students expressed it like tthis: Dr. _____, I usually have trouble sleeping because I am so wound up and anxious from trying to go to school while working to support my kids. With this book, I fall asleep within 10 minutes." I'm giving it three stars because it covers the material more completely than any other available book, but if there were a more modern book that covered the material as well, I would change my adopted text immediately.

In short: get this book if you are into Star Wars. Its affordable and full of entertaining and nostalgic material. The other reviews on here are a overly critical. This book is a great casual read and has a ton of great pics of the toys and other nostalgia mainly focused on the vintage era.Are the prices "not accurate?" maybe... but who honestly cares! Of course anyone who is a super hardcore pricing minutia nerd will go to ebay to look for prices... but come on now, this book is obviously for the casual reader, someone new or just a plain old star wars fan.Again: if you like Star Wars, had the toys as a kid or just want a great read to have around your home to bring you back to a bit of your childhood, by all means get this! Great job Overstreet, I've really enjoyed this book!

Great info and learned a lot

If you are beginner and know nothing about collecting vintage Star Wars merchandise, this is the book for you. Dont bother memorizing any prices though, they are seriously way overblown. I was also disappointed in the lack of information presented in this book. Vintage card-backs come in multiple variations with different pictures for most characters, there is no mention of these variations or the difference in prices that they fetch. There is a large section of the book devoted to comic book pricing which I already have since I buy the Overstreet Comic Guide. The poster section has outrageous prices listed for many posters, look on ebay to purchase many of these at a fraction of the price. All in all not a very good resource but hardcore collectors will buy it anyway, which was probably what they were counting on.

I agree with most of the other comments. There are some nice pictures here, but the overall coverage is scant. I really expected something much more thorough like their comic guides. Sadly, this isn’t it.

MASATOSHI NAKAYAMA carries on the tradition of his teacher, Gichin Funakoshl, the Father of Modern Karate. I had already seen this book far before I purchased it and knew of it's quality.First off this introduction section is phenomenal. I really love the stress on karate as both a physical and spiritual developement, not just a form of fighting. My original dojo felt like a discipline, without any real stress on how to fight and many dojo's I've seen or visited stressed either a 'strike first' mentality or a militaristic combat perspective with no emphasis on the discipline and spiritual developement. The introduction of this book stressed the simultaneous developement of both the spiritual aspect and the physical aspect.So far the rest of the book has been pretty well structured and shows what I would call 'in-depth' photos and sketches of how to achieve a mastery of the fundamentals.If you are serious about karate, or any offshoot of martial arts, this is a must have. From my experience training with a Sensei can be limited and potentially infrequent (with my busy schedule) so when I have a question or am looking to polish my technique without more experienced martial artists present, this book (along with the others from this series) is a must have.

I have only skimmed through this book so far, so I plan on updating this review after I have thoroughly read this book, but so far, it looks really good. While I'm sure I already know at least some of what is taught in this book, it is nonetheless good to practice things you already know so you don't lose your skill and when you practice something, you get better at it which only helps you in other techniques. Sometimes going back to basics is exactly what one needs to do to overcome a plateau in one's training.

Great books on Shotokan karate. Well explained, lots of pictures.

This book was required reading for me to obtain my brown belt/Senpai title for my karate class. I wish I'd read it sooner, and I read it twice through within a week. It's a must read for anyone wanting to hone their karate skills and training, and makes everything "click". The pictures are extremely helpful and explanations are thorough and easy to understand. I will have both my children read this book as well while they are in training.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is practicing, or wants to learn karate. Although it cannot replace the value of a teacher, it has step-by-step pictures demonstrating the movements. It is good if you want to refresh your memory or want to familiarize yourself with the techniques

I think this book has a fair amount of good information, particularly for the cost. The words to avoid were very helpful. If you're looking for a starting point for your LinkedIn profile, this book provides that.
