I am a gay woman. I have read the work of many gay poets. I would not call myself a connoisseur of poetry, per se. I consistently have 20-30 poetry collections at home at any given moment.I bought this collection in 2010. I leaf through the poems again and again, year after year. By far, my most favorite collection of lesbian poetry. Real. Powerful. Moving. Beautiful. Sexy. Intense. Sensual. This review is 7.5 years after purchase... Dog eared and well loved. Shared and cherished.
This has so many amazing poets and poems here. The book itself is very nice with a dust sleeve and is a nice small size for on-the-go. One of my favorite collections of Lesbian Love poetry. I can read it for hours. I'd recommend this book to all who are interested in poetry of this sort.
I've never been that fond of poetry, having rarely seen myself reflected in the words of others, but I found something very familiar in these pages. The style, tone, and topic of these poems vary wildly and allow each reader a chance to recognize some small part of herself. It is a wonderfully reassuring and empowering experience to find that there really are so many people who hear, share, and are able to reflect your voice. I chose this book on the power of Leslea Newman's name alone and was not disapointed. I am now pleased to have other writers to follow.
I especially love Paula Gunn Allen's He Na Tye Woman in here. She is a writer sadly almost forgotten. She writes with so much life. People should check her other books out. Anyway there is plenty of other poems with a lot of fuel for eroticism and imagination in here!
This is one of my favorite poetry collections. Oh, how much love, passion, laughter and tears are within these pages. I read it, front to back, in a day. I couln't put it down. What wonderful words to read and inspire a heart with love.
