He pulls the Old and New Testaments together in a way that helps to understand that the Bible truly is one book written by one author to reveal the one God of the universe. His insight is outstanding. His explanations are clear, concise, and easily understood. While leading an upcoming study in the book of Daniel, I intend to make John Phillips' "Exploring the Book of Daniel" one of the central "go-to" tools.I have several volumes by John Phillips (including the New Testament set) and I strongly recommend any of his books. You won't go wrong reading this wonderful author's work.

Phillips is a master at digging into theology and still making it relevant and understandable to the lay person. I highly recommend his commentary, and also the one he wrote on the Book of Revelation.

I was confused about how Daniel fit into the history of the time it was placed in the Bible, but even more how it affected New Testament times and then how it affects today's happenings. This commentary is very helpful to a novice Bible student and easy to understand. The book is full of helpful facts about the times of Daniel.

I wasn't expecting much, as I went into the whole Bach Remedies thing (and homeopathy in general) as a skeptic. After all, no one has ever been able to provide any scientific proof for how homeopathy works. But anyone who's read any of my reviews knows that I have an incurable autoimmune disease and I'm always on the lookout for ways to treat my symptoms that won't interact with all the pharmaceutical drugs I have to take. So I read this book and I was REALLY impressed with how the lessons are laid out. I feel like I got a very solid education on the whole Bach line of flower remedies. Then I went out and actually bought a few different bottles, to put my lessons to the test. I mixed up a few batches, according to the book's directions, and, surprise, it actually worked! Not only that, but the symptoms haven't come back and it's been several months. I still don't know how this works - not even Dr. Bach himself knew - but I am very happy that I bought this book and found something new for my arsenal.

The information in this book is great but I am wondering if I have a counterfeit printing. The case histories in highlighted boxes throughout the book are so dark they are unreadable.

I signed up to take the official Bach Flower Essence Program and the first thing I read from other students was a suggested reading list: This was one of the suggested books - boy am I glad I bought it. With all of the more technical books I have had to read this one was the best book that gave me the edge I needed in the Bach program. As soon as I received it I started to read and could not put it down. I am so impressed at how well written it is, how easy it is to understand but best of all it is just like a school book. It has self tests after each unit and the answers for your review. For me that makes this book the best on the market because I want to be able to test my skills. I felt like the author was right there with me teaching me directly.So if you ever wanted to learn about Flower essences and need a good starting point then this book is a must!If you are thinking of or signed up to become a certified Bach Practitioner then this book is a must read before you begin the program. It will give you a head start and will make all of the other books easier to understand.Overall:A must read for anyone interested in Flower Essences.Easy to read & comprehendThe author gives you case studies which are easily understood.Fast shipping & arrival, excellent condition.

This is not what I expected (Amazon really needs to allow more extensive previews of books before buying). It is very much for beginners and doesn't have anything to add beyond what can easily be found online. Nor would I call it a workbook, except for the fact that it asks some simple quiz questions and then gives you the answers.I would only recommend this book for someone completely unfamiliar with Bach who prefers books to online learning. For that person, it would be a good buy. I was looking for something that would help me gain deeper insight and new perspectives. This is not it.

The format of this book is straightforward and brilliant. The remedies are grouped into similar emotional expressions with scenarios for each remedy. This makes it clear to the student how to choose from different remedies which may seem to elicit the same response. The quizzes are quick yet inspire thought. It's nice that successive quiz "questions" reach back and have you continue to keep in mind the previous remedies.The comment about the quality of the book I found to be partially true. There are a few editorial issues, the note-boxes could stand to have higher contrast between the background and the type - but all in all, these are minor compared to the knowledge provided. Yes, it is a paperback. Yes, it would be nice to have pretty glossy pictures. But remember, this is a WORKbook, and meant to be one.My all-time favorite quote about books is,"A book is less important for what it says than what it makes you think" - from author Louis L'Amour. In the case of "The Back Remedies Workbook", the book says a lot and provokes us to think even more. I'm very happy to have found it and to add it to my natural health bookshelf. I expect to read this again and will definitely recommend it.

I have read this book from cover to cover and I am well on my way using Bach Flower Remedies for myself and my loved one. I have also studied the Edward Bach writings: "Heal Thyself" and "The Twelve Healers" in the Bach Flower Remedies book. After reading these books I was inspired to pursue further preparations to become a Bach Flower Remedy consultant. Therefore I was lead to undertake the study of 3 books written by Mechtild Scheffer "Keys to the Soul", "Bach Flower Therapy", and "Bach Flower Remedies for Crisis Care" I am studying one remedy per day from all three books simultaneously. I am a little past the half way mark, but I am utterly amazed at the inner transformation that is taking place within me. The Stefan Ball is a nice introduction and overview of the remedies, but for those who are seeking profound spiritual and metaphysical information about these remedies, I highly recommend the above Mechtild Scheffer books.

Don't let the reviews about the dark print in some highlighted boxes scare you away from this book. They are a bit dark, but are legible under good lighting. The information in this book is accurate, written by an instructor in the Bach Remedies certification program and required reading for level 2 of that certification process. The workbook format helps the reader assess that they are actually learning the material and not just reading it mindlessly. It is easy to understand.

The only complaint I have with this book is that the 'Case History's' are practically illegible due to the dark ink and probably due to the dark ink being on not so good newsprint type paper. I struggle to read them, and for the most part have given up. It's too bad too, because of the few I have been able to decipher, I got some good information.

Book is at 4 1/2 rating. I really got into this book, it answers many questions people have especially since the first game takes place 14 or so years into E-Day and this tells all of what happened before then when they were kids so about 25 years in the past and just a week after the events of the first game. Shows how Marcus came to be such close friends with Dom and how their journey began as Gears together, yes many people complained about the constant jumping back and fourth between time periods but if you paid attention then that shouldn't be a problem just imagine its a video game scene I have never had that much jumping in between times, its a first and I found myself really pulled in by it. It goes into depth on Marcus and why he is the way he is, very detached and how he grew up compared to Doms family. It tells just how much emotions a lot of these men and women have and the struggles they have gone through since day one, there are many scenes where they are very vivid to me because it was well written in my opinion, it tells you what the characters are feeling and you get to be inside these characters shoes. There are very deep well written pieces of text's here and tell a whole untold story all together. Any REAL Gears fan should read up on these novels because they tell nothing that are in the video games, trust me you may even end up feeling different about some of the characters once you get some more back-story on them!FRAG OUT!

My review is based on the Kindle Fire Edition. This was the first e-book I ever downloaded for my Kindle Fire which is a tell-tale indication that I am a Gears of War fan. I have played all three games and enjoyed them immensely.Aspho Fields gives a taste of the back story and history for the characters in the game and the world of Sera. It doesn't give you a complete picture immediately as this is part a series of books on the Gears universe. More like a tantalizing start and a promise for more information in later volumes.The book does fill in the gaps and adds more depth to which in turn creates a better understanding of the game characters. As I read through the book you almost have to meld the book and the game together and you come to a new appreciation for Gears of War in general. The book's narrative style consists of jumping from flashbacks to present day.However, I did find the book difficult to read despite being a fan of the franchise. Knowing what things look like in the world of Sera, based on the game, I would have thought reading through the book would make comprehending the storytelling easier but it didn't. The flow of the story was plodding and monotonous. It felt like the author pulled Gears info to build a frame of a story around that info, threw in some dialogue and hope that the reader is familiar enough with the Gears universe to hold the whole thing together. The storytelling could have been better. I don't know if it's the pace or the author's writing style, but I wanted more creativity and it felt factual.Maybe because this is the first book and because it is a game franchise, things are already set in stone which might limit how the story is told? I don't know but I found myself wishing there was more to the way the story was told then what was presented.If you are not familiar with Gears of War at all, this book will not be a good read. It's going to be shallow at best and would not hold your interest. If you're a fan, like me, who found the characters and story endearing in the game than this book is more like a supplemental to the whole experience. Recommended to any Gears of War fan looking for a good read about the game we all love.On a technical note, some pages on the Kindle Fire version would come up blank. In order to bring out the page I had to press on where a word would be to highlight the word and that fixes the missing page. It pops up.

I can't get enough of gears. After finishing the games, I wanted to know more. I was so involved in this book, I got them all as a birthday gift. It definitely made me cry at the end. Loved knowing new characters and detail of their hairy situations. I'm On to Jacinto's reminent and I've gotten through the first chapter so far. LET ME TELL YOU. IT JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER

I enjoyed this book only because I am a fan, and since I am a fan, I can say that I really really enjoyed it.However, if you are unfamiliar with the Gears storyline already, if you haven't played any of the games and don't know a bit about each character (what they look like, sound like, act like, their backstory) you will be completely lost on a lot of things. The author seems to take a shortcut assuming that her audience knows everything already (which most of us probably do), but I would have still liked a little more descriptive writing. She gets the story across, but a lot of moments in the book that should be really intense and climactic seemed lacking. It felt like reading a report of what happened with dialogue rather than reading something that put me there with the characters.I recommend this book to those that want to know more about GOW, but for anyone looking for a good book to read, pass. I will however be reading the rest of the series... the story has hooked me, just not the writing.

I love the Gears of War games and this fits perfectly in the universe. The story fills in the gaps of the game story that I have always wondered about. If you're a Gears can or military Sci-Fi fan then you'll enjoy this.

I'm not sure what else to say other than this was a Great series! The jumping around within the series was a little distracting but nothing that should deter anyone from reading them. I must say I am a huge fan of the Gears of War series, both game and books but the books really delve into the characters and their life storyline. Karen Traviss is an excellent writer and I really didn't want to see an end to the series. These books really make you feel like Epic Games did a really poor job with their storyline compared to the in depth detail Traviss included in the series. I also find it a plus that she stuck with what little storyline Epic Games did giver her. Not to give anything away but Anyone who really enjoyed the game should definitely give this series a read.Great job Karen Traviss!

This is a story of the author's trip to Iran, a dream from adolescence, to see the land of the Persian poets and the great gardens and magnificent mosques and to meet with the clerics, sheiks and leaders of minority faiths, like Sufi and Zoroasterian, to uncover the many anomalies that represent Iran, the conflicts between the rulers and the way the general artistic population lives, the compromises citizens make to find a place of expression and creativity..and the hopes of the younger population.The Iranian population is very pro-American, as was once the population of Iraq, they were two of the only Middles Eastern countries whose average citizen loved Americans, in spite of the despots that rules them. Iran's culture which goes back thousands of years has the patience to survive any government, and the love of their country, culture, heros and poets give most Iranians hope for a future where beauty and friendship will be the future.

Mr. Housden should have spent more time researching Iran before he journeyed there because he makes a few basic and embarrassing errors about the country and culture. His delight in his Iranian sojourn is, however, infectious, and if you prefer literary to real travel, this book will take you to a far and exotic destination that you won't regret visiting.

This is a timely addition to the recently published books regarding relations between the US and Iran. It is a relaist's view of a people with historical and emototional ties to the US.It should be included in the reading material reccomended for the statespeople responsible for managing this relationship. At a time when both sides have legitimate claims on grievances resulting from their behavior during the recent past, a book aimed at healing is timely and appropriate. As a sort of travel book, it is surprisingly a fast read and a page turner.I highly recommend the book.

I enjoyed this book, a great insight into Persia. I only wish Roger would have done like one of his Iranian friends suggested was to spend some time out among the Bedions instead of fixating on Persian cultural sites and hanging out with artists and intellectuals.

This book is pleasant enough, but it never really grabbed me. There are descriptions of people and places and experiences the author has, but I kept waiting for something to really shine, a special moment, or an observation that really moved me, and it never really came. It was a good taste of Modern Iran, but not what I was looking for.

I loved this book. This man is a philosopher as well as a poet. I was very moved by the chapter on Persepolis, and having been to Isfahan in 1973 knew exactly where and what he was referring to and Whetted my apetite to return. His meetings with prominent artists and film makers as well as the women of Iran was an eye opener. . It is wonderful to travel with someone who isnt afraid to reach out and touch the soul of a place and its people. Thanks Roger, look forward to your next trip.

Roger had longed to visit Iran for many years and finally got his chance, but to visit artists and others behind the scenes. He was always entranced, even though his life was in danger.

I don't think I've encountered a more insufferable protagonist in all my life. Bridget Jones spends the entire novel obsessing about finding a boyfriend, and in the end, finds one she doesn't deserve, with little character growth or justification. It didn't feel self-aware enough to be a satire, though I can't imagine what the point might be. Vicious sexual assault is treated as a plot mechanism to advance Bridget's career in the salacious news imdustry while the protag whines about modern single life over champagne at dinner parties. It's like reading what a misogynist must think women are really like. I'm adding a star because Mark Darcy is hot. But that might well be due to the fact I keep picturing him as Colin Firth. I don't even know who I would recommend this to. People who need a wake-up call, perhaps. Go see the movie instead.

This book officially falls into the same category for me as Pretty Little Liars: silly fluff that I normally would not read, but for some reason I just cannot put my finger on, it intrigues me.But, it started out almost as a book I was going to abandon, because she about drove me crazy at the start (and, frankly, through the whole book) with her updates and moanings and groanings about her weight. And while I am not looking to start any debate about weight issues with my review, I do feel that when you are around 120-130 pounds, you don't have much to complain about as far as being fat goes. UNLESS you have COMPLETELY bought into society's view on things. And, let's face it...at the time this book came out (1996), society was pretty much into thin, thin, thin. It is not like now, 19 years later where people are starting to be a bit more accepting of all body types...especially recognizing the effect that the media has on girls and women.But, the more I got into the book, the more the soap opera feel of the book took hold, and I just became hooked. Now, I am not one to watch soap operas except on those rare occasions that I for some reason get hooked into one. BUT, I do like a good drama, and sometimes one needs a bit of fluff. Especially when one reads a lot of dark mysteries and whatnot like I do all the time. Sometimes it is nice to read about problems like Bridget's that have to do with men, and being single, family rather than people being murdered and creepers around every corner.To be honest, this is a series that I have been terribly interested in for ages. Probably for a decade or more. I just never made the time for the book or the movie. And now that I have, I have to admit that I am kind of glad that I did. Even though I am not totally gushing about the book, and I did watch part of the movie yesterday (no, my rating is not AT ALL based on the movie...just on the book), and the movie, of course, deviates from the book wildly. It was kind of fun to read after awhile, and I enjoyed settling down at the end of the day with a book that wasn't going to scare the pants off of me. Because while I do love that adrenaline rush, sometimes it is better to just relax.

Overall, I thought this book was just okay. It wasn’t one of the best books I’ve read but it wasn’t bad either. It is set up like an actual diary and has the personal thoughts Bridget Jones, the main character of the novel. The author’s writing style is very conversational, and it almost feels like Bridget wrote this diary for people to read. It is interestingly real, describing the gossip that is circling Bridget’s work or people’s feminist opinions. I liked the real aspect and seeing how society has a role in people’s lives. Bridget admits that she is a child of Cosmopolitan culture and we see her try to lose weight throughout the book. However, some could see this as being concerned for the wrong reasons. Bridget is obsessed with her weight and what others think of her. This book portrays how some people are so obsessed with what society thinks of them and they do not make a life of their own. On a different note, there is humor in the book, and I found myself laughing at some points. If I were to recommend this book, I would recommend it to someone who likes chick-flick types of movies. I also caution that it gets really slow towards the middle. At some points, I thought there was no point to the story and the plot was not that strong. Towards the end, the action picks up and it gets interesting. If you like a thrilling page-turner, I would not recommend this book for you.

I think I've seen the movie version about 20 times - oh how we love Colin Firth and Hugh Grant and even Renee Zellweger. And then I finally decided to read the book. The good news is: I LOVED the book. There are a few parts that were not in the movie, so it was still a refreshing and fun read. The not so bad news: I kept picturing/hearing Colin, Hugh, and Renee (and her band of friends) as I read through this. The bad news: I think there were scenes in the movie that were not in the book. I don't recall exactly which, but I felt like I was having memory problems while reading the book and trying to recall the movie.Overall, if you've already seen the movie, all is not lost. Read the book! And then watch the movie again. Both are fun and worth it in their own rights.

Phenomenal book on advanced planning with reverse mortgages. Interesting and well thought out uses for them. A far cry from just the old "house rich, cash poor" limited thinking on the subject. Valuable reading for any insurance agent, retirement pkanner of broker. A house is the largest asset for many seniors, and yet most planners ignore it.

This book is essential for anyone who is even thinking about a reverse mortgage - whether consumer or professional. The former will find it reader-friendly and engaging, the latter will find it eye-opening and thought provoking. The majority of people can not afford to ignore their housing wealth as they seek ways to finance a longer period of retirement, and this book brings that asset and its potential use - either active or simply as a back-up strategy - into clear focus.

Don is in the unique position of having been an originator and a RICP certified teacher. He has a wealth of knowledge on the subject of housing wealth and is able to communicate that knowledge in very practical ways. This book can be read by financial planners as well as those considering a reverse mortgage for themselves. My hope is that the book can help change many minds and overcome some of the stigmas that persist when it comes to reverse mortgages. Kudos to Don for his knowledge and communication skills.

Don Graves does a great service to seniors and their advisors with this book. As someone who trains financial planners, he knows the challenges they face when they advise their clients. Most seniors are concerned about outliving their resources in retirement. Graves shows how a reverse mortgage can be utilized as part of the overall strategy to ensure that this doesn't happen. It is an engaging read and has practical steps and ideas for advisors, such as ways to bring up the question of a reverse mortgage, which some advisors are reluctant to do. Great job and thank you!

Every financial advisor should read this book. It does a great job explaining and illustrating the proactive reverse mortgage strategies that improve financial plans. Just as importantly, it provides practical tips on how to introduce these strategies to your clients. These tips are especially valuable because decades of myths and inaccurate reporting have created widespread fear and ignorance of reverse mortgages. This book will help you replace your clients' misperceptions with actionable knowledge that can lead to a more secure and efficient financial plan.

Don Graves has created a great tool to help advisors and clients understand this often misunderstood tool. HECMs may be the savior of the middle class in retirement.

I wish I would have had the insight and knowledge found in this book much sooner.
